At the November 2011 SAGM, changes to the Member's Handbook were approved by the membership. Most of these changes are to reflect changes that have taken place in the club, to add additional explanation and to revise a number of the fees found in Appendix 'C'.

A copy of the revised Handbook has now been posted on the web and can be found by clicking HERE

There are new boats listed for sale under the BUY & SELL Tab. This is a great opportunity to list your boat on the web at no charge. Will any owner whose boat is listed and it has been sold, please let me know. Webmaster

Please also note that adverts for sale items should not be pinned on the club notice board. There is a book especially for this purpose kept on the bar. You can insert your advert into it.

GIVE YOUR OPINION

While planning is underway for an official survey of members and their views on where the club should be headed, remember that at any time you can submit your beefs or your praise to the Executive by using the Guest/Comments Tab. We welcome input and suggestions on how we can improve your club. Please use this facility that is available to all members to aid in improving your club or just to pass on some information about a trip you recently made. This is a good spot to pass on details about anchorages or problems boaters should be on the look out for.

MEMBERSHIP SURVEY IS NOW CLOSED
THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE

To All Members

I just wanted to drop a note to inform you that we have officially “closed” the membership survey, and at closing we had received 120 responses – a phenomenal showing of cooperation indeed. This information will be extremely helpful to us as an executive in making decisions, establishing priorities, and implementing timelines relating to issues that had been identified in our strategic plan. There were a number of other practical ideas and suggestions that apply to various aspects of our programs, services, and operations that will be utilized by various executive members in the near future, as well. Overall, the level of participation and the information we attained was beyond anything that we had hoped for when we set out to do this survey. Thank you so much!
By the end of February, we will provide a detailed synopsis of your views and share with you the statistical data relating to your responses. I have asked Past Commodore Barry McCallum, who was instrumental in ensuring that this survey was developed and shared with the membership, to complete this report, and he has graciously agreed to do so.
On behalf of the entire executive and management at the RNYC, I want to extend my sincere appreciation for all of you who have taken the time to provide us with your feedback. As a result, we have a much better understanding of the wishes and priorities of the majority of our membership. This will be invaluable in our decision-making for the future.
Once the results and statistical data have been collated, we will let you know the various ways in which you can access this information. In closing, I want to extend a special word of thanks to Ken Corbett, who has been instrumental in working with Fluid Surveys to enable us to have electronic access to complete the survey, and to develop the means by which to share the data so it can be more easily viewed and interpreted. Thank you, Ken!
With your continued understanding and support, there is so much that we can do together to continue to enrich the overall boating experience for the members of the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club.
Sincerely,

John Walsh
Commodore

Greetings from Your Commodore

I want to take this opportunity to wish all Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club members and their families a very happy and prosperous New Year. Rose and I hope that 2012 will greet you with good health, much happiness, and a pleasant and memorable boating season. We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in this coming year. Soon enough the remnants of festive celebrations will disappear, and before you know it, we’ll be preparing boats for what we hope will be an outstanding boating season at RNYC. I think we’re owed a summer of stellar weather! As Commodore, I’m looking forward to working with the executive team to finalize plans for the 2012 boating season, and by all accounts, this year is shaping up to be another busy and exciting year in every facet of our operations.

Thank you to all those members who took the time to review our strategic plan and complete our survey. Your input will be invaluable to us in directing our decision-making, and we very much value the fact that so many members took the time to respond. One of many plans for early in the new year is to devise a simple mechanism to share with you, in a concise way, members’ overriding thoughts and opinions from the survey. The survey will provide important feedback to assist us in implementing our plans for the future, and will help us undertake critical decisions on your behalf that will help shape our future as a yacht club, and which are in sync with views of the majority of our membership. Thank you, once again, for your participation and input.

To all visitors to our website, we extend a warm welcome to you. I invite you to browse through the many links that provide information about membership and fee structures, operations and facilities, our exciting sailing programs, our many social programs and events, photos of past events, health and safety protocols, as well as opportunities to browse through our “Buy and Sell” section, where items have been posted by our members. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to drop us a line using the contact information provided. We’re always eager to hear what our members and visitors like about our website, and of course, we’re always seeking ways to improve to better serve you in the future.

In the very near future, our 2012 Events Calendar will be posted online and hard copies will be delivered to every member early in the new year. The calendar highlights all of our major events and functions, and I’d encourage you to scan through the calendar, take note of our events, and make preliminary plans to join us for what we hope will be an extraordinary program of events and social functions for this coming year. Stay tuned for other “unscheduled” special events throughout the year, as well.

In closing, I want to take this opportunity to thank Past Commodore Barry McCallum (and his wife Karen) for the many sacrifices they made throughout this past year, in particular. Barry represented us with dignity and integrity as Commodore, and he provided strong leadership and an incessant desire to be in touch with the membership and ensure that their voices were being heard. Thank you, as well, to all Flag Officers and Executive Members who have agreed to serve with me this year. I very much value your contributions and hard work, and I’m looking forward to hearing more about detailed plans in your various portfolios as we move along in the new year. If you have any ideas or suggestions that you would like to pass along to me or any member of the executive, use the contact information provided and take a minute to drop us a line. Your input is always appreciated, and every opinion counts.
Cheers for now...and here’s to a fabulous 2012 boating season!

John Walsh
Commodore
